An Operating System is the software that interacts with the hardware of a PC and works as the intermediary between applications and the hardware, including peripherals such as a printer, a computer mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it transmits requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, hosting servers also use an Operating System which functions as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script applications or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and many others. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so you will be able to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server packages come with three Linux distributions which you could select from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. In addition to being free, the OSs are very stable and secure and the primary reason to offer all three of them is to ensure that you'll be able to run any kind of app that you would like, because different pieces of software have different requirements in terms of the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a huge community of developers who have made thousands of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you pick, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to manage your web hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need a different OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers

If you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the order page because we want to give you a broader choice with regard to the system environment on your server as different apps may have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe Internet hosting service. Based on your selection, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Needless to say, we can always change the Operating System in case the one you've selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software which you would like to run. We can also update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
